    1. Quote of the month

“If you say, “I just can’t help the way I feel,” you will only make yourself a victim of your misery ~ and you’ll be fooling yourself, because you can change the way you feel. If you want to feel better, you must realize that your thoughts and attitudes--not external events--create your feelings. You can learn to change the way your think, feel, and behave in the here-and-now.”

      - from The Feeling Good Handbook by Dr. David Burns

“When you feel frustrated or upset by a person or a situation, remember that you are not reacting to the person or the situation, but to your feelings [beliefs] about the person or the situation.”

      - from The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra

“I can't emphasize this strongly enough... If you haven't been able to feel how you want to feel and haven't been able to get yourself to do something you want to do... then you are being victimized by your own disempowering thoughts, beliefs and attitudes.”

      - Mike Brescia, President, Think Right Now International

“Other people can neither make us miserable nor make us happy.”

      - p.3 of Choice Theory by William Glasser, M.D.

“When anything external distresses us, it is not the event which causes us pain; rather, it is our response to it, and this we have the power to revoke at every given moment." - Epictetus

    2. Words from Mama Kalavati

    Dear Kalavatians,

WOW! Our website Alexa ranking has increased more than 1 million in the last 3 months. This month we reached our target of hitting below the 500,000 mark. We are now 426, 655 in our Alexa ranking. Our growth rate has seen a 333% increase. Out next target is to reach below 100,000. Thank you readers for helping us be seen.

Welcome to readers from Botswana, China, Latvia, Lithuania, Mauritius, Mexico, Spain and Switzerland. We're now in 55 countries.

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Belize, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Colombia, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ghana, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Japan, Malaysia, Mozambique, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Romania, Russia, Seychelles, Singapore , South Africa, Sweden, Tokelau, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Zambia

It's been a storm of a month. Like the rest of the world, it has been a month of up and downs here at home. For South Africa, we have had the high of the Rugby World Cup win, and the low of losing one of the world's greatest musicians - Lucky Dube.

Likewise, amazing opportunities have stormed my way. With speaking engagements, new business networks, and the joining of a fantastic mentorship program...things are amazing.

But I've also lost a friend I love dearly. SO I'm feeling sad and angry. So it's apt this month - that the theme focuses on shifting emotional states.

My prize draw failed to grab your attention. Okay, Okay... Because it's such a great CD and in the interests of perseverance...I'm running the same prize this month. Feedback on what works or doesn't work is always welcome.

As the year comes to a close, its both exciting and stressful for many. I've had a request for help with staff appraisal forms. Look out for that in the mid month issue.

So, this is a time to complete the year's loose ends. What have you achieved this year? Spend time focusing on what worked rather than your failures.

And on your failures...what have you learned?

I told my story for the first time in public. Did I get it right - NO. I bummed out on the conclusion. Spoke too fast and I couldn't get off the stage fast enough. Added to that, not one new person came to talk to me afterwards. Just about every insecurity reared it's head.

But it's a success because I did it. It's a success because I had people's attention. It doesn't matter what people think. I've taken note of the learning points and I'm ready to do it again.

What will you be ready to do again in 2008?

    Enjoy this issue.

    4. Feature article - Motivation and Building New Emotions

The signs of a society emotionally out of control, can be seen all over the world. Violence, rape, road rage, jealous outbursts, procrastination, messy relationships – to name a few.

Learning to shift your emotions does not solve the world's problems. But, it will go a long way to clearing the space for progress to happen faster...and if you do it from the inside out...

...you'll transform not only your life, but those around you too.

    The result...

...You'll feel great. You'll have motivation and emotions that are based in gratitude, love, purpose and faith.

    How my emotions exploded...

From about 13, I decided to never let my emotions get the better of me. Up until then, my teary outbursts had not served me well. I didn't want to be weak anymore. A hardness set in. I didn't care what anyone thought...and best of all...few people messed with me.

Until, in my twenties, it all fell apart.

I'd suppressed every ounce of hurt, pain, fear and anger. It was as if someone had punched a hole in a dam. I began to drown in the river of my own pain. My internal self control hit ground zero.

I cried myself to sleep, and I was crying when I woke up. For two years. I thought it would NEVER end. Depression set in. I was unmotivated to say the least.

    5. What you have to say?

"Jo's workshops have taught me that my life is a creative process that I direct from within."

    - Lebo Mashile (Poet, Author, Television Presenter, Life skills Facilitator)

"One of the biggest wake up calls for me is understanding the reality of mind talk. I always knew I had it going on. But I never knew what to do about it. The work I've done with Kalavati has enabled me to recognize and name it. This has enabled me to be conscious of the impact it has in my life, in the moment. It doesn't go away, but its power has been reduced. I used to feed the negative stories in my head. Not feeding it has helped me to stop many drama's I use to create in my life. The best thing is I can do it for myself without the help of a coach. That's empowering."

    - Ira Halpern, CEO, Glamslam, Pty(Ltd)

    6. Positive news

"I think the press, including TV journalism, has an ethical responsibility, a sacred responsibility, a service mission ... to make good news just as entertaining (as we've made sexy the violence)."

    - Marianne Williamson
