    2. Words from Mama Kalavati

    Dear Kalavatians,

This is a short Happy Birthday to Nelson Mandela note. For me, it is a reminder of what love in leadership is. A reminder of who we all can be. I have selected two articles for your attention. And if you haven't seen our page on Nelson Mandela, and watched the 5 documentaries on him, do take the time out to take a look at the journey this man has taken.

Take a cue from Mandela: manage your own brand July 17, 2008

    By Timothy Webster

On the eve of a birthday to be celebrated by every politically conscious person in the world, I feel honored to introduce my first column by saluting the Nelson Mandela brand.

This will be a monthly conversation on the relationship between your personal brand and your organization's brand.

With Madiba turning 90 years young tomorrow, I have looked back a year to see what this living legend asked for on his 89th birthday.

And I launched a monthly column 'Learn to Lead' this month in Business Report, The Star, South Africa.

Are You An Entrepreneur Leader: Work harder on yourself to do better with your business

July 3, 2008 Business Report, The Star

    By Jo Hazelhurst

As a young entrepreneur, I am often asked: "So how are you doing?" What people mean is: "Are you making any money?" Society measures success by what you have in the bank. Now as much as this question is irritating, cash flow is king for any business. You must have money to put back in the business if it is to grow. But money should not deter you from focusing on yourself.

I wish you all the best, and I hope each one of us brings out the best of who we are and touches the lives of every one around us.

    Much love and grace,

    Mama Kalavati

    3. Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela

Nelson Mandela has not only impacted South Africa but the entire world. He is fondly known in South Africa as Madiba (muh-dee-buh), a clan name loosely translated to mean 'father of the nation.' I will share with you some of his speeches, quotes and stories.

There is a five part documentary on him, weaved throughout this article. Go grab a cup of coffee, kick back and enjoy.

If you have stories about Mandela you would like to share, we'd love to hear from you.

When I was a child, Madiba's name was not whispered in the corridors of my lily white school. It was only when I attended a mixed private school that I first heard his name. Here, students from all walks of life spoke the name. Many were the children of activists. 'Free Nelson Mandela' echoed in the corridors.

    4. Positive news

"I think the press, including TV journalism, has an ethical responsibility, a sacred responsibility, a service mission ... to make good news just as entertaining (as we've made sexy the violence)."

    - Marianne Williamson
