I was introduced to Bonnke Shipalana on Facebook through David Kau - a South African stand up comedian. They had just run an inspirational breakfast together. And people were buzzing. The next week Bonnke and I sat down for, what turned out to be, a long afternoon lunch.
Unlike most people I meet, he didn't launch into who he is. He wanted to know about me.
He was curious, a great listener and knew how to connect.
He is also charming, wise and humble.
When Bonnke told me his story, I was fascinated. He started entrepreneurial ventures while he was still a teenager. But unlike many young people hungry for money, he decided he needed to learn as much as he could before he was 30. He took marketing positions with top South African companies.
And before his 30th birthday, Bonnke left his job to start The Power of One.
He now runs inspirational breakfasts, offers talks and workshops. Bonnke is making things happen. He has a strong Christian message, but he caters for people of all faiths.
It is clear he is an emerging leader that will make people stand up and take notice. This is a man who is making a difference.
Power of One Breakfast Event:
Rating: ***** Yesterday I attended the Power of One breakfast, organized by Bonnke Shipalana, one of our article contributors. I was inspired.
Given Mkhari and Masingita Masunga shared how they were able to take life's challenges and turn the impossible into the possible. Bonnke encouraged us to find our purpose, nurture our talent, have vision and believe in ourselves.
I highly recommend you sign up for Bonnke's newsletters and talks. He holds these events in Johannesburg on the last Saturday of every month.
