Coaching to Change Life Habits: Go for your Dreams

Return from Coaching to change life habits to The importance of personal development

Coaching to change life patterns, by Bonnke Shipalana

It is emotionally strenuous to read about people who intentionally end their lives, as they believed that committing suicide was the only way out. It must be sad, painful and scary for a man/woman to reach a stage where life loses its meaning, where facing another day seems like swimming in volcano and taking one more step forward feels like they are dragging Mount Everest on their backs.

In my short life on earth, I have learned that there are two types of suicides. Most of us are only aware of the second (physically death), but it’s the first type that is the most dangerous.

    Living Without A Dream

The greatest challenge on earth is that people have no vision beyond their current circumstances. Without a vision of tomorrow or the future, life loses its meaning.

The minute life loses its meaning; lack of hope takes centre stage and ownership of your life.

What I am saying is that, before a person can physically end his life, he had already emotionally ended his life.

Emotional suicide (first type of suicide) occurs when a person is unable to describe their dreams, starts to live with a vague but constant internal longing for something.

He/She will attempt to do this today in order to satisfy these vague needs, finding no satisfaction; they will jump to another project the next day.

To live such a poor life (dreamless life) leads people to feel like failures and they become resentful of their jobs, friends and families. After countless undirected explorations for this vague need, they end intentionally taking their own lives.

Coaching to change life habits: 3 steps to win the battle of the mind

    1. Why do you exist?

Can you explain to me your purpose in this world? Your life is not a rocking chair, you were not born for fun or just to add numbers to these world. People without a vision or purpose will constantly be busy but not ultimately effective/satisfied.

They are good at doing so much, maximizing their times and energy, but getting little of value accomplished.

Brothers and Sisters, by clarifying your vision or purpose you are indirectly clarifying what type of reward you desire at the end of the race.

The 1st step in winning the battle of the mind is by understanding your purpose on earth.

    2. Few days ago I went to an office furniture shop to buy a chair. The shop owner brought out a fancy chair that was valued at R4 000 and said that he was selling it for a R1000.

After a careful examination of the chair I realized that it was not in good condition. The owner explained that the chair was a demo and it had few faults that “natural eyes” cannot see. With anger boiling inside I stood up and left the shop.

Why did I leave? Because my dad taught me to never ever accept mediocrity.

Most people are content and used to leaving a second best or average type of life. Never cut corners in your life with the hope of reaching the end of the race quicker. If someone does not love you the way you would like to be loved, stand up and leave. If your boss/company does not appreciate the work that you are doing, stand up and leave.

The 2nd step in winning the battle of the mind is to 100% reject mediocrity in your life.

    3. It’s a clich to say that every journey begins with the first step, yet it is so true. Learning to take initiative in your life means not waiting for all problems or obstacles to disappear and fears to subside before taking that first step. I have learned that where I will finish in life is not determined so much by where I start as by whether I start. Stop hanging around your dream and hang on your dream.

The 3rd step in winning the battle of the mind is to take initiative.

The conclusion of coaching to change life habits

By learning and practicing the above mentioned steps, you will be empowering yourself and sparing your own soul. Step 1, know and understand what you were born to accomplish (purpose) and see it in your mind and begin to imagine it (vision). Step 2, never live and accept a mediocrity in your life and Step 3 is all about you just doing something. Brothers and Sisters, the ball is in your court, practice the above 3 steps and you will see the Lord take your ordinary and transform it into the extraordinary.

    Amen.
