Understanding Emotions as a Sign Post

Understanding emotions as a SIGN of what you're focusing on, helps you to check that you're on track, AND increases your emotional intelligence.

Bringing you steps closer to your dreams.

After all, what you give attention to expands. And if you're holding on to the past, the past holds on to you.

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.”

    -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

So many people around me are worrying. And worrying causes stress. This time of the year amplifies the things we are unhappy about, or afraid of.

Now, whatever you focus on will expand....

...And you know what you're giving focus to, by how you FEEL.

Understanding EMOTIONS as a sign post of what you're really thinking about, allows you to be okay with what you're feeling. You don't need to resist the sign post. Just change what you're giving attention to.

What have you been speaking and thinking about – TODAY?

If the things you have been focusing on were to become a reality in the next 24 hours, would you feel fulfilled? Remember the frivolous gossip you and I engage in affects our thinking patterns and therefore our lives. So are you concentrating on the things you really want ?

If you are wondering why you keep experiencing the same frustrations, and getting the same unrewarding outcomes, look to your feelings, thoughts and words. This is why understanding emotions and learning to create new emotion is a vital key to self improvement.

What do you feel and think about yourself, the relationships you're in, your professional life, others, and the world?

I'm sure you think your beliefs are correct. My friends will be the first to tell you that I have a need to argue my point...much to their irritation. Like you, I have a need to be right and to look good. It's called being human.

And so it is with you. You'd rather prove that you're right about how you see yourself, others and your life - than be fulfilled, feel successful, peaceful and filled with love.

In understanding emotions, it's tougher in the moment, to stop and reflect.

  • Do you believe people can't be trusted?
  • That everyone wants a piece of you?

  • That it's easy to be screwed in the entertainment industry?

  • That it's a tough business?

What is it that YOU complain about? Take the 21 day Complaint Free Challenge.

Remember, what you focus on will expand.

So, if you want to feel great, alive with purpose, have plenty of money and do what you love...but you have conflicting beliefs...

... you are taking a step forward and a step back a the same time. It's like saying you want to go to Ghana but boarding the plane to Australia.

You may think you have no control over what's happening in your life right now. And yes, as my mother taught me, you can't control events already in motion or other people, but you can choose what you believe about what's happening.

“When you feel frustrated or upset by a person or a situation, remember that you are not reacting to the person or the situation, but to your feelings [beliefs] about the person or the situation.”

    - from The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra

Change what you believe, consistently, everyday, over time, through making a conscious decision to do so....

.... you will be surprised how much you and your life will change – into every thing you want.

But don't expect instant change. As Mohamed Ali said, “ I ran on the road long before I danced under the lights'.

Be willing, ready and able to spend consistent time on who you want to BE and the life you really want. And this includes understanding emotions. So don't avoid it, thrive on it.

My clients who experience dramatic results, are the ones who are willing to commit time every day to their dream, as a lifestyle choice, to develop their inner vision, conversations, compassion and strength.

“It's the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting......Before a dream is realized, the Soul of the World tests everything that was learned along the way. It does this not because it is evil, but so that we can, in addition to realizing our dreams master the lessons we have learned as we have moved toward that dream. That's the point at which most people give up.... [At this point] Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of search is a second's encounter with God and with eternity.

    -- Paulo Coelho
